Mr Nayak joined the BBC/ABB group in 1984 after completing B Tech in Electronics & Telecommunication and post-graduation in Electronics Design Technology from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. He has overall 31 years of service in the power and automation industry. The last position he held was President, Power Systems, ABB Ltd.,

He served as Managing Director of ABB Global Industries and Services Limited He served as President of ABB Power Systems before he resigned in 2011 to start his own Company PEnA Limited, focusing on Power and Automation domain as the country offers lots of challenges and opportunities in terms of technology adaptation and also competence build up.

Besides the above he is the ex-chairman of South Asia IET network. He is Fellow of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET UK) and Chartered Engineer (IET UK).He is continuing as spokesman of IET on power, smart grid and technical education.

He has written many articles on- IT in Power to Smart Grid, carbon footprint, energy conservation etc. He has been elected as Chairman of work group Renewable and Micro grid of India Smart Grid Forum (PPP Initiative of Government of India). He is also engaged in various technology forums, once such forum is DC Micro grid developments for villages.
